dc.description.abstract | This study examined how motivation and staff development relate with of performance of academic staff in the College of Education and External Studies at Makerere University. The study used a cross sectional survey design. Data were obtained from a sample of 75 academic staff and administrative officers. Data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages and Tables while Pearson correlation co-efficient was used to test the research hypotheses. The study found out that performance was influenced positively by emphasizing motivation and staff development aspects. The study also found that there is a significant positive relationship between motivation and performance (r = .346**; sig. value. 003<0.05). The study further found that there is a positive, strong and significant relationship between staff development and performance (r = .696**; sig. value. 000<0.05). The study concluded that motivation and staff development positively and significantly relate to performance. The study recommended that college administration should intensely use motivation as a strategy to improve academic staffs' performance. The study further recommends that administration should intensely use staff development as a strategy to improve academic staffs' performance through emphasizing academic staff training and having a clear promotion policy that they hope to benefit from in the near future. | en_US |
