Technical project report for project management practice in the construction of serviced apartment block on Plot 8, Buku Road, Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District, Uganda

Abstract

This project report contains details about the construction of a serviced apartment block at Buku Road, Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District. The report focuses on construction project management and contract administration, but also details the activities carried out during the implementation of the project. Under Chapter One is discussed the background of the project, its objectives, scope and other project details like the contract sum, duration. This chapter also presents the author’s involvement on the project as an intern contractor’s project manager. Chapter Two covers the project management and contract administration aspects of the project. The site organization, quality control measures, project cost control and management, health and safety measures and communication and channels put in place are discussed under this chapter. The project management techniques employed to manage time, cost and quality are discussed in detail. Chapter Three covers the project construction activities and processes. Different tools and techniques used in this phase of construction are discussed in this chapter, right from site clearance, substructure up to finishes. The challenges encountered during project execution are discussed in Chapter Four of this report. The proposed solutions to address these challenges are also discussed in this chapter. Lessons during project execution are discussed in this chapter. Chapter Five details the conclusions drawn by the author about the project in respect to the objectives of the report and based on the experiences drawn during the involvement in this project. Recommendations suggested on how to better implement the project execution of this kind are given in this chapter.
