dc.description.abstractThe study intended to examine the influence of records keeping in the management of teachers’ affairs in primary schools. The study was specifically directed to records kept in primary schools that influence the management of teachers’ affairs, the extent to which record keeping influence the management of teachers’ affairs and challenges encountered in keeping such records. The study followed a descriptive survey with a cross sectional design, a sample population 400 participants was drawn from 200 primary schools and questionnaires were used to obtain data from the teachers and head teachers. The interviews with 7 District Education Officers and 12 Coordinating Center Tutors were conducted using the interview guide. The Chi-square test was used to determine whether record keeping was significant on the management of teachers’ affairs and percentages were calculated. The study established that records that influence the management of teachers’ affairs are kept in primary schools however with varying levels. In addition, the study established that record keeping influences the management teachers’ affairs like punctuality and there were challenges encountered in keeping records that influence the management of teachers’ affairs. The study concluded that, records that influence the management of teachers’ affairs are kept in primary schools however, without the same consideration, record keeping influence the management of teachers like, content coverage and there were challenges encountered in keeping records that influence the management of teachers’ affairs such as lack of knowledge and skills in records keeping. The study recommends that education officers coordinating center tutors and inspectors should design monitoring tools reflecting record keeping with specific emphasis on records that influence the management of teachers’ affairs. In addition, they should periodically organize workshops for teachers and headteachers on record keeping. The study further recommends that curriculum developers at Primary Teachers’ Collage and University levels should review the curricula so as to cater for all aspects of record keeping and Ministry of Education and Sports and local governments through School Facilitation Grant, Local Government Management System and Presidential Pledges should ensure that school constructions consider offices, libraries and stores.en_US
