A web-based system for website evaluation in the Tourism Industry
Abstract
Internet and World Wide Web (WWW) have the potential for tourism marketing and eCommerce due to the information-intensive nature of the tourism and travel industry. This is to promote tourism offerings and increase share of the competitive international tourism market. In an attempt to understand this development, some recent studies have included frameworks for measuring website complexity. This research employed the available tourism website evaluation frameworks and systems that have been developed since the mid 1990s. This enabled the identification of the requirements for the development of web-based evaluation system. Consequently this was used to evaluate the degree of sophistication of the tourism websites. Therefore addressing the problem identified of the existing tourism website evaluation methods. That is being costly and time consuming since they are based on detailed questionnaires administered to the tourism website users. This study improves the tourism website subsequent role by
determination of its significance or worth. That is in the promotion and marketing of tourism destinations, meeting both suppliers and customers’ needs. This is in addition to reducing tourism website likelihood of failure.
