Reward systems and employee performance in an organization: The case of Camusat Uganda
Abstract
The study was carried out to evaluate the relationship between reward systems and employee performance at Camusat Uganda. The study had three objectives namely; to identify the contribution of reward systems to staff motivation, to find out the level of staff satisfaction in reward system and to identify the causes of employee misconduct at Camusat Uganda limited. Using a cross-section research design a sample of 108 respondents was selected randomly to respond to a self-administered questionnaires and an interview. The findings showed that while Camusat had reward systems with good objectives, these were not being met as employees continued to have low job satisfaction and continued to see unfairness in the reward system resulting into misconduct and low commitment at the work plane. The human resource problems around motivation, satisfaction and misconduct should be resolved through a reward system that recognizes and rewards good conduct and one that attends to the emotional rewards rather than over concentration on financially derived rewards.
