The provision of clean and safe water to the rural communities is a major challenge especially in developing countries such as Uganda owing to the communities’ settlement pattern. This project had the major objectives to improve the availability and access to clean and safe water to the residence of Lira Kato rural growth Centre and to improve the sanitation and hygiene situation of Lira Kato rural growth centre. It involved data collection and analysis to provide information for system improvement of the pre-existing water supply scheme to supply the community of the above stated project area. With funding from Concern Worldwide, an international Non-Governmental Organization, the project looked at the existing water supply scheme which was vandalized some years ago, upgrading and rehabilitating it to meet the demand of the current and projected future population of the area. In the run up to this project, I reviewed the initial data that was used for the design, made appropriate analysis and conclusions. The project therefore involved the checking through of the entire system design processes, taking into consideration of the water demand, the storage requirement, the settlement pattern and the design parameters that are representative of good design as enshrined in the water supply design manual 2013. It also encompasses construction supervision and management as a major area of this project which I participated in enormously. Throughout the re-design process, I was able to alter, modify and retain the designs depending on the outcomes of my findings. Finally, the project looked at the operations and maintenance and sustainability strategies of the water supply scheme constructed.en_US
