dc.description.abstract | With more than 6 billion connections worldwide and US$1.3 trillion in annual revenue, mobile telephony has become the largest information and communication technology (ICT) in history.
Mobile broadband has changed the way we live, learn, work and collaborate as all this information can be accessed over the internet through data subscriptions and through different internet service providers. This is further enabled through the different smartphones in the market from the different vendors having internet enabled services. These Internet enabled services can be measured by either the Quality of Service (QoS) or the Quality of Experience (QoE).
This study focuses on the QoE achieved by the end user through enabling the user to monitor performance in terms of delay, speeds, browsing history for comparison and keeping the user in control of the data bundle subscribed for while enjoying services offered. Knowing exactly how data bundles subscribed for are used and being in position to evaluate the service subscribed for is a worthwhile effort.
The monitoring tool developed provides the different mechanisms an end user can use to monitor data usage on mobile devices. The parameters considered include; delay, download and upload speeds while browsing, comparison of data usage over a given period of time and notification sent once data limit is reached. | en_US |
