Continuous professional development and job performance of nursery school teachers in Nangabo Sub county, Wakiso District
Abstract
The study examined the contribution of continuous professional development on job performance of teachers in nursery schools of Nangabo sub-county. It was guided by three objectives namely; to find out the contribution of formal off-the- job, formal on- the- job and internal informal continuous staff development teachers’ job performance in nursery schools in Nangabo sub-county, Wakiso District. I adopted a qualitative approach where data were collected using semi-structured interviews from six nursery teacher and three headteachers who were purposively and conveniently selected. I analyzed data using the thematic analysis technique. Overall, findings showed that formal off-the- job, formal on-the-job and informal internal continuous staff professional developments contributes to teachers’ job performance in nursery schools in Nangabo sub-county, Wakiso District. It was hence concluded that formal on-job, formal off job and informal continuous professional developments significantly relates with teachers’ job performance in nursery schools in Nangabo sub-county, Wakiso District. Hence, it was recommended that to boost teachers’ job performance in nursery schools in Nangabo sub-county, Wakiso District, there should be a policy put in place encouraging offering formal on the job, formal off the job and informal internal continuous professional developments. School authorities should put in place a fund in their budget supporting teachers’ professional staff developments to be able to tap the likely benefits.
