    Abstract
One of the means of leading the people of God to salvation is through catechesis and this is solely done through the total cooperation of all the baptized. However, its not a guarantee that all the baptized are at the center of catechizing others. This work is to a greater extent set aside for the religious, lay catechists and clerics. My interest is geared towards the lay catechists and particularly investigating into the effectiveness of their ministry in relation to their level of training. Thus the theme of this research work states: “The relationship between the Training of Catechists and their effectiveness in ministering to Christians in Bisanje Parish-Masaka Diocese”. In studying how good it is, to train a catechist, views were borrowed from other writers who have written and given the importance of training a catechist as we shall see in chapter two. Catechists themselves and some other categories of peoples were consulted on this same issue through questionnaires and interviews. The information from them is well computed in chapter four and it revealed that, the level of training catechists affects their degree of performance in their ministry. Thus recommendations were given in chapter 5 for an effective ministry of catechists. However more research should be done on the significance of catechists in the Catholic Church, the relationship between catechists and the clergy, and the influence of basic Christian Communities to the vocation of the catechists.
